View Full Version : Favorite Exercise Music?

I debated about where to put this, but I thought that it ultimately fit better here than in the music section, since people would be looking here for workout tips. Feel free to move it if necessary.

So, anyone have favourite music to exercise to? I'd love some recommendations of something upbeat. I've been downloading some classic rock songs (Paint it Black, Come as You Are, etc) but my brain isn't functioning very well when it comes to thinking of other songs.

What do you prefer?

Well I listen to all my favorite music when I run, job or evern dance in my room. I listen to Rap, Hiphop, R&B, Country, Pop and some Rock, I think music pumps you and makes your body want to do something. Like dance or something, thats why I think lots of people listen to music when they run. To pump there body but also relax them.

Well usually I go to the gym.And they play Hip-Hop and Dance music in there,so I listen to that when I'm on the treadmill or on a bike. But when I'm in my regular spinning class, the instructor plays fast fast dance and rock. But when I'm doing stairmaster I usually watch the t.v.s' in there. So basically Hip-Hop or Dance pumps me up.

Anything exciting that can get me moving. Usually songs that have meaning and have depth, so I understand the inspiration. My brother and I always run to Pop by N'Sync. It really makes you hyper and energetic! Anything pop, rock, and maybe a teensy bit of rap. The one song that really gets me in the excercising mood is Fighter, by Christina A.

I listen to a lot of things when I workout. I mostly listen to Rap/Hip-hop, because they're fast paced songs and the beat always keeps me pumped up so I keep running longer and faster. That would be stuff like Rick Ross, Chamillionare (love him, he's my favorite), 50 Cent, E-40, Nick Cannon, etc. I also listen to some mellow stuff when I warm up or warm down. That would be stuff like... uh... anything else. Haha.

It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm doing yoga then there's usually background music to my tapes that are pretty nice and relaxing. But then when I go down to the gym I usually take my mp3 player and for the most part stick to upbeat, pop-y music like the Spice Girls and Britney Spears. Music that makes me feel like moving and getting my exercise on.

Well, IF I'm not watching Oprah at 4 and running on the treadmill, I'm with my iPod around my arm at the gym. With usually Rock/Pop/Hip-Hop or anything I like and is catchy. I'm curently running to Danity Kane's songs "Ride With You" and "ShowStopper" at the gym with my sister. It's a great song to run too, or lift weights too. :)

Lately bands like Phantom Planet, Kaiser Chiefs, No Doubt and Say Anything are just right for when I go running. I have a playlist on my ipod that I change pretty obsessively, and I like to choose the more upbeat songs by bands I love since anything slow really drags me down, but I have to like what I'm listening to. I have some guilty pleasure songs on there I would be too embarrassed to mention, too. :lovesmile

Well unless I'm not working out with an excersise tape, or running outside, and me being the only one I know without an MP3 or ipod, I usually listen to a lot of Rock, and Punk music.. since it really gets me motivated and stuff like that. I have a ton of CDs I like to listen to old songs too, like form the
70's and stuff. I'm weirder in the music genre, than most of my friend that listen to hip, 'cause I don't.

But yeah, that is the kind of music I usually listen too, other than "rent" music a lot of the time. lmao

When I exercise, I usually listen to whatever is on my MP3 player. Most of what is on my MP3 player is rock music, alternative, country, and Gavin Degraw type music. If a love type song comes on, i usually skip it until I get to a faster song, because love songs just don't get me pumped up and energized like faster beat, and harder songs do. Some good groups to listen to are Click 5, if you like pop music, because they usually have fast songs, and also Hinder, they have a few fast songs as well if you enjoy rock music. If you like country music, Eric Church has some good fast songs, and also if you like rap/hip hop remix songs, Dora the Explorer Club remix is really fast and entertaining. =)

Nice Thread. I always bring my iPod everywhere and so I make like 18 list for special times, which comes in handy because you don't always have to keep on changing the song and waste the power.

Working Out I have as like my number one list because I always have the time too and whenever I do excerise I like listening to rock, even a little bit of Hip Hop just to get me pumped up and if no one if there in the gym, I even sings sometimes hah. :p. I like listening to Fergie's new song Fergalicious, because whenever I listen to that sng it just pumps me up. I also like listening to Orson and just songs that are a bit Rock-ish that have all these instruments playing to keep me alive.

I think Justin Timberlake's new CD, FutureSex/LoveSounds is a good one for exercising. The reason is because the songs are very long (and upbeat) so they keep you going a while. I find it better to exercise to music that i have recently purchased, because i don't know the words. If i know the words to my favorite workout song, i wanna sing and then it shortens my breath. haha.

Ah, very interesting subject.
Well, whenever it comes to me working out and whatnot, I usually put on music with a good beat. I listen to Lil Jon, Jagged Edge, etc.
Sometimes, though, I'm not in the mood to workout, but if I want to push myself and everything, I'll play rock.
Nickelback's song 'Animals' really helps me.
Rock helps me get everything out and do those 5 extra push-ups. (:

Honestly, any upbeat music. I use to exercise to a bunch of Cassie Steele songs last year. But lately it is honestly any pop music like Hilary Duff's new stuff. I love how the beat is and the rhythm that runs through me when I hear her music. But I could also exercise to any rock music; not really hard, hard rock but more soft rock or punk. Rock tends to encourage me to exercise and dance more than pop on certain occasions. It really depends on my mood.

I usually tune into Music Choice whenever I excersize, and I listen to the Electronica section. I find the upbeat music to help a lot. I think music has a lot to do with the pace you go. If you excersized with a slow song, you would go much slower. I listen to the Techno music there like Daft Punk, Scatman John, Eiffel 65, and more. I also listen to the upbeat Hip Hop songs. I need to listen to something really fast to get into my excersize sometimes.

I really like mellow music when I'm running like the Brand New demos or their new Cd. Old Promise ring and the Smith are also really great.I know i'm going to sound really gay (which i'm not) but Paramore always seems to motivate me. Maybe it's because Hayley (the lead singer) is awesome... it's like I met her one time and I'm tottally crushing on her.

Well, when I was in my weight training class and I forgot my mp3 player, I picked a song I knew ALL the words to, and I sung it over and over in my head while I was on the elliptical, and it's surprising how soothing "Whiskey Lullaby" can be. It just kept me going and before I kenw it, I'd gone far, and class was over.

I also recently found that if you want something upbeat... any Hannah Montana song is great to work out to.

Devastation.

My favorite kind of exercise music would have to be like hip-hop the kind of music with a good beat and you can dance to it.Even though I'm a rock fan..the only time I really listen to Hip-hop is when I'm working out..like I had a little play list on my ipod that is for my exercising..I play it everytime I either go walking or jogging...Hip hop is a good music genre to listen to while exercising.

I listen to anything that has a fast beat to it and something in it that makes you just want to get up and start moving. Rap really does keep me going, but so do things such as Aqua songs and a few other random, fast, fun pop songs from time to time. They all seem to just give you more energy and even random bursts of energy as well. Music is really important to me when I am working out. I cannot workout in a very quiet environment. I've never been able to.

Oh sweet, I actually have a playlist of good workout songs! I shuffle them a lot, but this is the list as of right now.

"Call On Me" - Eric Prydz

"Get Ready For This" - 2 Unlimited
"Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" - C+C Music Factory
"Blitzkrieg Bop" - The Ramones
"Love Today" - Mika
"Scatman" - Scatman John
"SexyBack" - Justin Timberlake
"(I Just Like To Call You My) B!tch" - Dave McCullen
"Sandstorm" - Darude
"Eye of the Tiger" - Survivor
"Ding Dong Song (You Touch My Tra La La)" - Gunther
"Here It Goes Again" - OK Go
"Milkshake" - Kelis
"Lust For Life" - Iggy Pop
"Shake" - Ying Yang Twins ft. Pittbull
"Do Somethin'" - Britney Spears
"Wannabe" - Spice Girls
"Move This" - Technotronic
"Le Disko" - Shiny Toy Guns
"I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" - Scissor Sisters
"Bootylicious" - Destiny's Child
"I See You Baby (Shake That Ass)" - Groove Armada
"Pump It" - Black Eyed Peas
"What I Like About You" - The Romantics

As you can see, I have a few silly ones (lol), and some classics too; I like a lot of variety when I'm working out. But whatever it is, it HAS to be loud and fast!

yeah -- if you're interested in exercise music.....for gym music or music for fitness in general, I recommend European dance music.......

it's always the best motivational tool for me...

.... here's a compilation series on iTunes that I recommend -- the "Euro Club Hits" series:

I don't exactly have an exercise playlist of music. Honestly, the only purpose of music while I'm exercising is to keep me entertained. I don't use it to keep motivated or anything. I'll listen to any music that I like. It doesn't necessarily have to be a fast song. As long as I like the song and it keeps me entertained, then I'll listen to it since I get bored easily, especially when I'm exercising.

Girl Talk

This is my exercising playlist:

Amour Du Sol- Yelle
Short Skirt Long Jacket- Cake
Taper Jean Girl- Kings of Leon
Wolf Like Me- TV on the Radio
Debaser- The Pixies
Hella Good- No Doubt
Read My Mind- The Killers
Kayne's New Work Out Plan- Kayne West
Huddle Formation- The Go! Team
Je Veux Te Voir- Yelle
I Want Candy- Bow Wow Wow
Surf Wax America- Weezer
Such Great Heights- The Postal Service
Date with the Night- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Dare- Gorrilaz

A lot of pop, a lot of rock, some rap. It's good for lifting, not bad for running (unless you're the world's worst runner like me and you need a motivational speech by Obama to help you through it.)

"Discipline" by NIN
"The Kelly Affair" by Be Your Own Pet
"Sex Is Not The Enemy" by Garbage
"Do It Clean (cover)" by Hole
"Peace Frog" by the Doors
"D.A.N.C.E." by Justice
"Keep On Rocking In The Free World" by Neil Young
"C'est La Vie" by B*Witched
A lot of Britney Spears
"Misery Business" by Paramore
"I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" & "Love Machine (cover)" by the Arctic Monkeys
"I Just Can't Wait To Be King" from the Lion King
"Big Man With A Gun" by NIN
"Mono" by Courtney Love

*90s pop is excellent.

A lot of upbeat stuff, or at least loud, that's my policy. Something energetic to keep me going. Recently I've been into playing "Discipline" over and over because it kind of fits with working out. I need your discipline... ;) That's for my current regime, though. If I still ran I'd need a full out Britney Spears set, and repeat "Stronger" over and over and over.

I can run to any Cascada song. The tempo is fast and upbeat, and it keeps me pumped. I can also run to hip hop and rap very easily. Generally, anything that pumps me up I can run to. Especially techno music.

I don't have a playlist for my excercise music, but it is the one time I like to listen to really upbeat, dance and techno music, something I wouldn't listen to to relax at home, but really helps me keep motivated working out at the gym.

I recently created a playlist that I exercise to. :)

My Playlist:
-"Let It Go" from Step Up 2 the Streets
-"Church" by T-Pain
-"Where Do You Go?" by No Mercy
-"Remedy" by Seether
-"Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something
-"As Long As You Love Me" by Backstreet Boys
-"Across the Universe" by Fiona Apple
--Also others by Fiona
-"Don't Cry" by Jakalope
-"Strawberry Gashes" by Jack Off Jill
-"Hey Jealousy" by Gin Blossoms
-"Found Out About You" by Gin Blossoms
-"As Long As It Matters" by Gin Blossoms
-"Scars" by Papa Roach
-"Lifeline" by Papa Roach
-"Turn Me On" by Buckcherry ft. Papa Roach
-"This is Your Night" by Amber
-"Wannabe" by Spice Girls
-"Like I Love You" by Justin Timberlake
-"I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred
-"...And We All Have A Hell" by From First To Last
-"Toxic" by Britney Spears
--Also others by Britney
-"I Remember You" by Skid Row
-"Thriller" by Michael Jackson
-"Barbie Girl" by Aqua
--Also others from Aqua
etc.

I find mixture to be really important when it comes to music, during my workouts. I like to have slow music mixed in, for when I want to do a breather, but still pace at a steady pace and then once the next song comes up, I'm full speed. :)

Why So Serious?

I don't really have playlist for when I exercise I just like to listen to anything upbeat. I also will just listen to any song I like. But there is one song I always listen to when I exercise and that is Shake it by Metro Station .

I like your exercise music.... I thought I was the only one who could have NIN and Britney Spears on the SAME playlist, LOL. But "Discipline" is totally a good song to work out to. It motivates me. I like to listen to it when I'm really struggling, like toward the end of my workout and I'm just pooped and really wanna stop....

....and ya, most Britney music is perfect for working out. "Stronger" is a fav of mine, as is "Me Against the Music" and her new one "Circus".

I will pretty much listen to anything Britney Spears. Her music is upbeat and catchy enough that it will keep me motivated for most of the workout. It makes it fun to workout. I also like to picture myself on stage jamming, the mentality of her makes me want to work harder for some reason? Like I can achieve a body like that one day? LOL.

Sometimes I will put my ipod on shuffle, but I dislike that because if it's not upbeat enough then I slack off.
